Major triumph in battle to stop Cuck-Stye but fight not over
The struggle to stop a huge housing development, merging Cuckfield and Ansty and changing the identity of the area, continues. This despite a major victory in October which halted plans to build 1,450 homes.
Councillors, members of the Mid Sussex District Council’s Planning Committee, voted eight to four, to turn down the proposal, but the Say No to Cuck-Stye Campaign still needs villagers to redouble support.
The plan was refused due to the impact on the countryside and the location of the giant site. SCAG (Stop Cuckstye Action Group) are now waiting for the developer, Fairfax, to go to appeal.
For the Campaign, next steps are under consideration and there will be a drive to raise funds over the next six weeks, to ensure that they have the resources to hire the best legal team.
Giles King, Chair of The Cuckfield Society said of the October victory: “It was a great moment for the whole community and I was delighted by the enthusiastic banner-waving support we had on the day.”
He added: “ Some big challenges lie ahead as we re-group with our experienced planning consultants and legal team. We need to reinvigorate our fundraising efforts to ensure we have the right resources in place.”
