RULES OF ENTRY
1. Please study this Show Guide and submit your entries as soon as possible, using one or more of the entry forms on pages 11 & 14. (available in programme and to downloand here)
2. Applications for entry and payment must be received by noon on Tuesday, September 1.
3. Entry fees 50p per class. Only one entry per person, per class, is permitted. However, you can enter as many different classes as you wish. Entry free for anyone 75 and over.
4. Entries are on a personal basis. Items which are the work of more than one person may not be entered (with the exception of the horticultural classes but entries must be made in one name only).
5. Participation is restricted to exhibitors who are or have been residents of Cuckfield Parish, or who grow their produce, workor go to church, school or nursery in the village, or are members of the Cuckfield Society.
6. All exhibits must be the bona fide property of, and grown or created by, the exhibitor. You cannot enter an exhibit that has been entered in a previous year’s show.
7. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes of £3, £2 & £1, respectively, will be awarded in each class. We will be giving tokens instead of cash which can be spent in local participating businesses (please see list) during September.
8. Points are allocated for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions and the exhibitor with the most points in total will be awarded the ‘Best In Show’ cup. There is a ‘Best Junior in Show’ cup, too.
9. A cup will also be awarded to one 1st prize winner in each Section, considered by the judges to be the best in that Section. Exhibitors in the Junior classes will receive a small prize for each
entry.
10. Any exhibit which does not conform to the wording of the Show Guide will be disqualified and shown as ‘NAS’ (Not According to Schedule).
11. The venue will be open from 9am on the morning of the Show and ALL EXHIBITS MUST BE IN PLACE BY 10am when everyone except for the Show officials and judges will be asked to leave so that judging can commence. The judges’ decisions will be final.
12. Entrants to horticultural classes must provide their own vases.
13. To make the Show more interesting for visitors, please if possible, label your exhibits in the horticultural classes with details of the variety etc. (You will not be marked on this element).
14. Cookery items should be displayed on suitable plates/dishes etc. and covered with cling film (cling film must be easily removable for judging). Please ensure that dishes are properly cooked, stored and refrigerated where appropriate, as all items will be tasted by the
judge.
15. Please collect your exhibits between 4 and 4.20pm. After that time, perishable and potentially other items will be disposed of at the committee’s discretion, including by auction in favour of The Cuckfield Society.
All ordinary care will be taken of Exhibitor’s property but no responsibility can be accepted for any loss or damage.
Photographs of exhibits may be featured in Cuckfield Life, next year’s Village Show guide and the Cuckfield Society’s website. Email us in advance if you prefer your exhibits not to be featured
Winning tokens can be spent in September 2026 in any of the following: Artologie, Chez Fleur, Cuckfield Pet & Country Store, Cuckfish, Hairsmiths, ,Jimmy’s Barbers, Laser 4 You, The Talbot.
